Management and Perfomance

Management is a challenge requiring constant adaptation to new circumstances. Four key elements that make the current business landscape different from the past: Globalization, Technological change, knowledge management, and collaboration across"boundaries".

1. Globalization

Globalization has changed the face of the workface. Globalization affect small companies as well as large, and companies are under pressure to improve their products in the face of intense competition from foreign manufacturers.

2. Technological Changes

Why is the internet so important to business? it is a marketplace, a means for manufacturing goods and services, a distribution channel, an information services, it improves efficiency of decision making, it facilitates design of new product, and managers can watch and learn what other companies are doing on the other side of the world.

3. Knowledge Management

Knowledge management is about finding, unlocking, sharing and altogether capitalizing on the most precious resources an organization: people's expertise, skills, wisdom and relationships.

4. Collaboration across "boundaries"

One of the most important process of knowledge management is to ensure that people in different parts of the organization collaborate effectively with one another. This require productive communication among different departements, divisions, or others subunits of the organization.


Managing For Competitive Advantage

To survive and win, you have to gain advantage over you competitors and earn a profit. The fundamental success drivers of performance are innovation, quality, service, speed, cost competitiveness, and sustainability.

- Innovation: innovation is the introduction of new good and services.

- Quality: quality is the excellence of your product (goods and services)

- Service: so service is focused on continually meeting the needs of customers to establish mutually beneficial longtern relationships.

- Speed: Fast and timely execution, response, and delivery of results.

- Cost competitiveness: keeping costs low to achieve profits and be able to offer prices that are attractive to cunsomers.

- Sustainability: efforts to cut energy waste are just one way to achieve a popular form of competitive advantages: sustainability, which is the effort to minimize the use of resources.

- Delivering all types of performance: don't assume that you can settle for delivering just one of the six competitive advantages: low cost alone, quality alone example. The best managers and companies perform on all opg these criteria.


The Functions Of Management

These fundamnental include the pour traditional functions of management: palnning, organizing, leading and controlling. Organizing is assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goal.

1. Planning: delivaring strategic value.

2. Organizing: building a dynamic organization.

3. Leading: mobilizing people.

4. Controlling: learning and changing.


Management Level And Skills

* Top level managers

Top level managers are the senior executives of an organization and are responsible for its overall managemnet.

* Middle level managers

middle level managers are located in the organizatinon's hierarchy below top level management and above the front line managers.

* Frontline managers

Frontline managers, or operational managers, are lower-level managers who supervise the operations of the organization.


You And Your Career

At the beginning of you career, your contribution to your employer depend on your own performance.

a) Be both a specialist and a generalist.

If you can become both a specialist and a generalist, seek to become a specialist: you should be an expert in something. This will give you specific skill that help you provide concrete, identifiable value to your firm and to customers.

b) Be self reliant.

To be self reliant means to take full respontibility for yourself, your actions, and your career.

c) Be connect

Being connected means having many good working relationships and interpersonal contact and being a team player with strong interpersonal skills.
